Baldwin Fred


Fred was one of Herbert and Sarah Baldwin’s nine children and was born in 1881.  The 1901 census records Sarah as a widow living on Ford Hill, Queensbury.  Fred who was then aged 20 was employed as a Farmhand.  On 13th June 1903 Fred married Hannah Appleyard at Queensbury Parish Church, Hannah was a local girl living on Chapel Lane, Queensbury.  The 1911 census shows Fred and Hannah living at 120 West End, Queensbury with Fred employed as a life insurance agent.

Serving in the Army Ordnance Corps Fred died, of illness, on 19th March 1917.  Serving at that time in the Balkan Theatre, he is buried in Greece at SALONIKA (LEMBET ROAD) MILITARY CEMETERY, (999).  His grave bears the inscription: ‘We cannot Lord thy purpose see but all is well that’s done by thee’.
