Bert is listed by the CWGC as the son of George and Martha Bonner, of 3, Shibden Mill Fold, Shibden, Halifax.
Born in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, Bert is first seen living in Halifax, in the Salterhebble All Saints parish, on the 1901 census, he was aged 18 and employed as a carter for an oil distillery. Although his family can be seen in Halifax on the 1911 census, there is no return for Bert, from the date of his death it is to be presumed that he was serving in the Army.
Serving in the 2nd Battalion. Royal Warwickshire Regiment, Bert was aged 31 when he was killed in action on the 7th November 1914. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL (Panel 8).
