Son of Maurice and Elizabeth Amanda Cawkwell, of Queensbury.

Maurice served as a Sapper with the Royal Engineers, 276 Field Company.  He died on 24th March 1943, aged 20.

He is buried at SFAX WAR CEMETERY, Tunisia.

Maurice (senior) and Elizabeth can be found on the electoral roll for 1945 living on Derby Street.  The family were originally from Hull.

Little is known of Maurice (junior) war records or how he came to pass.

The inscription on Maurice’s headstone reads:  “Jesus said I am the resurrection and the life. We shall meet again someday”.

Maurice (senior) was a shipyard worker before he enlisted during the First World War on 27th June 1916.  He served in the Royal Naval Division and although it is unclear, it appears that he spent time in the Royal Naval Air Service and then the Royal Air Force, which was formed in 1918.
