ARRAS MEMORIAL

Fred was born in Queensbury and lived at Sandbeds, he was formally employed in the plush department at Black Dyke Mills.  Fred and the Cooper family have been difficult to trace on the census and the only information we have on Fred is from the Halifax Courier dated 01 September 1917.

Serving in the 9th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, Fred was killed in action on the 2nd July 1917 he is commemorated on the ARRAS MEMORIAL (Bay 2 and 3).

At the time of his death his Battalion were in the front-line trenches and the war diary records the casualties for the day as 1 Other Rank (OR) missing, believed killed whilst on patrol and 1 OR wounded.
