DAVIES Joseph

Joseph DAVIES

Joseph Davies (Davis) was the eldest child of David and Rachael and was born in West Hartlepool in 1886. He was married to Harriet Marie and they had one child, Thomas, who was born in September 1912, at that time the family were still living in Hartlepool.

Pension records show Harriet living at 9 Albert Edward Street, Queensbury and this address can be found on a document entitled ‘men who have given their lives for their country’. It is unknown when the family came to the village, no doubt to work in the mills.

Joseph served in the 9th Battalion. Yorkshire Regiment and was killed in action on 2nd February 1916. He is buried at BREWERY ORCHARD CEMETERY, BOIS-GRENIER (III. E. 7). This cemetery is close to the town of Armentieres and contains 339 Commonwealth burials of the First World War, four Second World War burials and five German war graves
