Arthur is recorded on a list of the Queensbury war dead, with the details of aged 19 serving Grenadier Guards, 10/1917. It is believed that he is commemorated at Ambler Thorn United Methodist Burial Ground, although the family grave has not as yet been located.
Guardsman Arthur Dawson died of wounds at 64 Casualty Clearing Station on the 9th October 1917 and is buried at MENDINGHEM MILITARY CEMETERY (VI. C. 47).
It is known that this man enlisted in Bradford and that his father was William. A search of the census returns for 1901 and 1911 show a William and Sarah Dawson living at Horton Bank, they had three children Mary, Arthur and Norman. Arthur was aged 12 and this would tie in with the age of the above casualty.
