Harry served in the 78th Battalion. Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment) and died of wounds on 22nd November 1916, aged 37.  He is buried at ETRETAT CHURCHYARD (II. A. 19A).

The CWGC records show that Harry was the son of Sarah Ellison, of “Clovelly,” Avenue Road, Torquay and the late Arthur Ellison, a native of Queensbury, Yorkshire.

The Ellison’s can be found on the 1891 census living at 10 Park Place, Halifax, Harry the fifth born of eight children was aged 12, all the family are shown as born Queensbury. The following two census returns show Sarah living at the same address.

It is unclear when Harry travelled to Canada, there is a possibility that he sailed in April 1905 to Halifax Canada, although this is difficult to confirm.

His grave bears the following inscription: “Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
