Arnold was the youngest child of John and Lucy and was born in Queensbury in 1885.  He had two brothers, James and Albert and a sister Hannah, his father died before the 1901 census which records Lucy living with Albert (aged 24) and Arnold (aged 16) in Idle, Arnold was an apprentice housepainter.

The 1911 census return shows that Arnold was married and living at 6 Princess Street, Idle.  His wife was Annie and they had a three-year-old daughter Edith, both parents were employed with Arnold a house painter and paperhanger and Annie a woollen weaver.

Arnold who served in the 2nd/8th Battalion. West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales’s Own) died of illness at Berrington war hospital on 10th January 1918, he is buried at THORP METHODIST BURIAL GROUND, IDLE.
