Recorded on the village war memorial, John has been difficult to identify.  The Queensbury roll shows that he lived at Mountain and from the 1911 census it is known that a 20-year-old John Greenwood lived with his mother Mary and younger sister Gladys at 46 Mountain, Queensbury.

From a search of military records, a John Greenwood service number 29/448 who served in the Northumberland Fusiliers has been identified as a possibility for the man named on the memorial, he had enlisted in Halifax and was killed on 8th September 1917, his effects went to his mother Mary.

He is buried at HARGICOURT BRITISH CEMETERY (I. D. 37)
