Ernest died at Magdalen camp military hospital, Easton, near Winchester on 21st February 1919, he had served originally in the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment before transferring to the Labour Corps and was serving with 649 Agricultural Company at the time of his death.

His parents were Esau and Hannah and he was the middle born of their three children having two sisters Sarah and Ida.  The family lived at Hill Top, Queensbury and this is recorded on the 1901 and 1911 census returns.

His father died in 1915 however by this time Esau and Hannah had started the process to emigrate to America and the CWGC records show Hannah living at 16, Grove Avenue, Sanford. Maine, there is also indication that his sister Sarah who had remarried in 1917 following the death of her first husband travelled and settled in the States.  Although no dates have been found for when Hannah travelled to America, it is known that she did return to the UK in July 1926, at the age of 65, for a short stay, departing Liverpool on 9th October.

Ernest was buried at QUEENSBURY BAPTIST CHAPEL BURIAL GROUND, following the closure of this cemetery he is now commemorated by special memorial at HALIFAX (STONEY ROYD) CEMETERY.
