Arthur served in the 2nd/7th Battalion. Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding Regiment). His parents were John and Mary Ann and he had seven siblings, the family can be traced on the census returns living around the Mountain area of the village and in 1911 they were living at 8 Montrose Place, Mountain.
Many of the family worked in the mills, however by 1911 Arthur and his older brother Spencer were working as plasterers.
Arthur had enlisted in Bradford and was aged 30 when he was killed in action on 3rd May 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the ARRAS MEMORIAL (Bay 6).
