Son of Harry and Annie Kershaw; husband of Margaret Catherine Kershaw, of Shelf.  Norman served in the 1st Battalion. Seaforth Highlanders as a Private.  He died on 30th January 1943, aged 25.

Norman is buried at IMPHAL WAR CEMETERY, India.

His headstone inscription reads: “At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them”.

There are two Norman Kershaw’s shown on CWGC records, one of Shelf and one of Great Horton, it is believed that the above, of Shelf, is the man named on our village memorial.

Born in 1917 Norman and his parents were living in Thornton in 1939.  He married Margaret in 1940 and they had a child, Linda, in 1942
