
Frederick KETTLEWELL
Frederick Gilbert Kettlewell served in C Battery, 52nd Brigade. Royal Field Artillery and was killed in action on 17th November 1916. He is buried at THISTLE DUMP CEMETERY, HIGH WOOD, LONGUEVAL (F.4). Frederick had enlisted early in war as records show that he disembarked in France on 12th May 1915.
Born in Aldbourgh, North Yorkshire, Frederick can be found, aged 9, on the 1891 census living in Great Horton. His parents were Richard and Isabella and he had seven siblings. In 1901 he is recorded as a mill worker and is still living with his parents at 234 High Street, Great Horton. This address is the family home on the 1911 census and Richard and Isabella still had five of their children living at home, aged 19 to 33. Frederick is now a boiler fireman, dye works.
Pension records from 1917 show his parents living at 22 Rushworth Street, Queensbury and on further records the address of 39 Cambridge Street can be found. In 1939 Frederick’s mother Isabella, aged 91, is living with her youngest son Arthur and his family at 29 Harmony Place.
