Thomas was the son of John and Matilda Lea, of 15, Upper Sheffield Road, Barnsley and husband of Clara Law (formerly Lea), of 14, Lake Street, Bowling, Bradford.

Born in Abergavenny Thomas and his family moved around the country, however they can be found in 1911 living in Beeston Leeds.  In 1914 Thomas married Clare Stead in Bradford.

Records show that Thomas enlisted in Queensbury, he joined the Border Regiment serving with the 9th Battalion in the Balkan theatre, he was attached to 60th Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps when he died of disease on 3rd July 1917.

Thomas is buried at SALONIKA (LEMBET ROAD) MILITARY CEMETERY (1086).
