Charles enlisted in Derby after the commencement of hostilities, his place of birth is recorded as Halifax and his residence shown as Queensbury. He served in the 8th Battalion, Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding) Regiment and died of wounds on 5th October 1916, aged 27.
His parents were Henry and Sarah Ann and the family had lived at Haley Hill, Halifax prior to moving to Queensbury. At the time of Charles’s death, they lived at 8 Nab Lane, Clayton Heights. His parents had received a telegram informing them that their son was seriously wounded, gunshot wound, and that he was in hospital, this was reported along with his death in the Halifax Courier dated 14th October.
Charles is buried at MONT HUON MILITARY CEMETERY (II. F. 5.)
