Fred SHARPE

Fred died of wounds at No 47 Casualty Clearing station France on 2nd March 1917, aged 37. He served in “A Company” 16th Battalion. West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales’s Own).
He was the son of John and Mary and was the third born of their six children, two boys and four girls. He also had two step brothers, from his father’s second marriage following the death of his mother Mary.
Originally from Thornton the family can be found from 1891 living in the Great Horton area and it was here in 1905 that Fred married Florence Issacs at St Johns Church. Fred and Florence had one child a daughter Edith Alice born in 1910. On the 1911 census the family are to be found living at 9 Beacon Road, Fred was employed as a tramway guard. CWGC records show Florence living at 7 Back Lane. Clayton Heights. Florence never remarried and can be found on the 1939 register living with her brother William at Poplar Grove, Bradford.
Fred has no known grave and is commemorated on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL (Pier and Face 2 A 2 C and 2 D).
