Named on the war memorial Fred Spencer is believed to be Private 52156, 1st Battalion. East Yorkshire Regiment.  The CWGC record that he was the son of Mr. P. Spencer, of 5, Blue Hill, Denholme.  In 1911 Pickles Spencer and his wife Eliza were living at Blue Hill.

Fred was one of eight children and had three sisters and four brothers.  A link to Queensbury has not been confirmed, however it probable that one of Fred’s siblings had settled in Queensbury and put forward his name for the war memorial.

Fred, who had also served in the West Riding Regiment, died of wounds on 26th October 1918, he is buried at AWOINGT BRITISH CEMETERY (I. G. 8).
