In 1911 Ezra, aged 22, lived with his parents Stephen and Martha Hanna and his younger sister Sarah at 6 & 8 Catherine Slack, Ezra also had an older sister Susannah.  Prior to the war Ezra worked as a stone mason.

Having originally served in the West Riding Regiment (Duke of Wellington’s), Ezra was serving in the 28th Company. Machine Gun Corps when he was killed in action on 19th October 1916.

There is a small write up and picture in the Halifax Courier dated 11th November 1916, in which it is mentioned that Mrs Taylor had received a letter from one of his comrades stating he had fallen.

Ezra is commemorated on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL (Pier and Face 5 C and 12 C).
