TEMPLEMAN George

George Edward TEMPLEMAN (TEMPLETON)

The name George Templeton can be found on a document, entitled, Queensbury Roll of Honour, pictured below. It is believed that this list was printed around August 1917.

The surname Templeton cannot be found in records, and it is thought that this is a misprint as a pension record for George Edward Templeman shows a Queensbury address of 13 Hunger Hill. This was the address of his widow Elsie.

Elsie had married George in spring 1915, they were both born and raised in Hartlepool and their marriage was registered there. George was from a large family having four brothers and a sister. In 1911, then aged 19, he was employed as a labourer.

George served in the Royal Field Artillery and had arrived in France on 9th July 1915. His CWGC records show that he was a Corporal with D Battery, 73rd Brigade and that he died of wounds on 14th May 1916.

In 1919 Elsie married Jesse Naylor with the marriage registered in Hartlepool, from the information gathered it is to be presumed that Elsie lived in the village for a short time during the later war years before returning to her native Hartlepool.

George is buried at VERMELLES BRITISH CEMETERY (III. F. 8).
