TOWNSON Arthur

Arthur TOWNSON

Arthur served in the 2nd Battalion. West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales’s Own) with the rank of Corporal.  He died on 25th March 1941, aged 32

He is buried at KEREN WAR CEMETERY, Eritrea.

Arthur Dave Townson was born in 1908, his family can be found living in Liverpool on the 1911 census.  His father was John James and it is believed that his mother was (Grace) Edith, Arthur is known to have at least five siblings.

The electoral rolls for 1911 through to 1929 record John James and his family living on Albert Edward Street, Queensbury.  In 1935 following the death of her husband, Edith was living in Colne.

Arthur married Violet in 1937, with the marriage registered in Halifax.  It is not known if Violet lived in the village.  There is a strong possibility that one or more of Arthur’s siblings had stayed living in Queensbury and that is why he is named on the village memorial.
