It is believed that John was the son of Elizabeth Wilson who is shown on the 1891 census living in the parish of Cartworth (Holmfirth).  She had three sons; George, Charles and John who was at that time aged 7.  In 1901 George, the oldest son, was living with his wife Sarah in Chadderton, Oldham, along with their own two young children, his brothers Charles and John are also shown on the census return.  John has not been identified on the 1911 census or via marriage certificate.
