William WILSON


William is shown on the Queensbury roll as living at Ambler Thorn and from the Register of Soldiers Effects we know that his father was also called William.  From this information, it is believed that William was living in 1911 at 10 Ambler Thorn, Halifax with his parents William and Martha Jane and older sister Ruth, he also had an older brother, Julius Ludwin who can be traced on earlier census returns and was 14 years older than William.

In 1911 William was aged 21 and working as wool sorter his sister Ruth aged 28 was recorded as a worker at home.

William served in the 9th Battalion. Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding Regiment) and was killed in action on 25th April 1917.  Having no known grave he is commemorated on the ARRAS MEMORIAL (Bay 6).
